The Bonsai Pot Co. Bonsai Training Pots are shorter in height to your average plastic pot or colander to encourage Nebari (root flare) across the width of the pot rather than down towards the bottom.

We have designed these pots with more aeration for and to encourage better root growth. These aeration slots are thin to avoid bonsai soil and non-organic soil falling out the bottom, but will still maintain the right amount drainage and aeration for roots to thrive. 

The pots have tie down holes for wiring purposes in the bottom of the pot for holding trees in position when re-potting, and to keep your trees stable in certain weather conditions (eg. wind!) The pots also have tie-down holes on the lip of the pot which helps for any wiring job on your tree (especially if using a Guy wire).
